With the local elections taking place tonight Saddleworth News will keep you informed of the latest news. We will be at the Civic Centre in Oldham providing Tweets and website updates throughout the night.
In Oldham, Labour will be aiming to tighten their grip, the party currently hold 34 seats with the Liberal Democrats, 21 and the Conservatives, five. With many things happening on a national level around key issues - they will be hoping to make much higher gains to cement their position.
The Conservatives could be in for a disappointing night. In Saddleworth the Independent Candidates will be hoping to make break new ground.

Let’s hope the Fib Dems get a good kicking.
Peter, Unfortunately not in Saddleworth North. I lost out by 43 votes! Second place for my first time standing in a borough election. Had them worried for a bit. Ken would have been proud I think.
You took on three major political parties on your own and damned near beat them all. Too right he’d have been proud. And I certainly am. Well done Nicola!
Nicola you did get my vote, i couldn’t find anything on the internet about the result, 43 votes was very close i can’t understand why people vote the Fib Dems all they care about is themselves, some people are stupid & never learn.
Thanks guys, I am proud of myself and you are right Ken would have been proud too!!!!!
We need more people to stand up for there rights in Saddleworth and join our cause. JOIN THE INDEPENDENTS and let’s make a difference.
Just a few questions for the “Independents” - How can I and many voters who have had enough of the main parties, vote independent? Are you not members of a party if you all work together under the “Voice Of Saddleworth” name?
Isn’t an Independent exactly that - Independent and stands alone for his, or her own beliefs. You sound too much like another party - is there an element of wool pulling here?
I asked the same question Saddbarsteward. Im not usually big on clubs either!
From an outsiders perspective it seems to be a group of people with the interests of Saddleworth and its people at heart. Local people, who live and work in the community and not career politicians moving into the area to further a career.
They are not tied by national politics - ie their leaflets arent full of Cornish pasty stories and national and even global issues. Their leaflets arent nasty either - unlike most of the others!
You should meet up with the Independents for a chat so they could explain from their perspective. Im sure they already offered you the chance?
